Achtergrond van het onderzoek
Risk-Reducing Salpingo-Oophorectomy (RRSO) at the age of 35 to 45 years is recommended for women with a high genetic risk for ovarian cancer. While this procedure decreases the risk of ovarian cancer by 95%, it also results in immediate menopause. Current research on potential adverse effects of premenopausal risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy such as decreased bone mineral density is limited, mostly due to short follow up. A cross-sectional study, nested in a prospective cohort, will be conducted to investigate bone mineral density and muscle mass in women who underwent RRSO ten or more years ago at a premenopausal age (<52 years). For a large part of the included women, data on bone mineral density and bone turnover markers will be compared to previously collected data in 2011 at a mean of 5 years after RRSO.
